My experience with graphic images leads me to believe that the JPEG format is the most common file format used on the internet for images. However, I only downloaded 5 as the assignment required. But browsing through some of the other images also confirmed my belief.
My minimum file size used was 13.2 Kb and my maximum file size used was 179446 bytes. The average file sizes were around 40 to 80 Kb. When I changed my "Cute Snowman" file to .bmp from .jpg in Paint, the file size did not change, the icon turned fromj color to black and white - I used the monochrome option - the picture quality didn't seem as sharp and the format changed from .jpg to .bmp.
